Dear MOSOP-USA Sister Chapters and the General Public:
As Ogoni people all over the world prepare for the forthcoming 18th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian State Murder of the martyrs of the Ogoni struggle on November 10, 2013, MOSOP-USA, St. Louis wishes to join all other chapters and affiliates of the organization in commemorating this special event. November 10th remains a day of sober reflection for Ogoni nationality and supporters of the struggle for justice and equality. We therefore wish to thank our sister chapters, affiliates and all supporters for the roles they continue to play in keeping this event a living memory.
We regret to inform the general public that because of the unresolved structural issues within MOSOP-USA, the St, Louis Chapter will not be a part of this year’s remembrance ceremony that has been slated for Atlanta, Georgia. However, MOSOP-USA, St. Louis and her supporters will be holding its ceremony in St. Louis, Missouri. While we reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of MOSOP, the St. Louis Chapter will only support and/or participate in the activities of MOSOP-USA on the condition that the following issues are resolved:
a) That, MOSOP-USA will abide by the constitution of MOSOP, which binds MOSOP-USA, its affiliates and chapters
b) That, chapter clearance must continue to be one of the cardinal requirements for candidates vying for any MOSOP-USA’s elective office
c) That, members who wish to contest for any office, including at the national level, must be financially committed and participate in chapter’s activities
That, we continue to stand by the electoral guidelines as issued by the Bishop John-Miller –led MOSOP-USA Electoral Committee, which is the same guideline used repeatedly during MOSOP-Nigeria’s elections
To further resolve the lingering issues in our organization, MOSOP-USA, St. Louis Chapter calls for the postponement of MOSOP-USA’s 2013 General election, and recommends immediate establishment of a Caretaker Committee headed by an Active Chapter’s Chairman and Secretary that will among other things ensure the full execution of the following terms of reference:
1. Organize a free and fair election within one year
2. Reach out to the Board of Directors of MOSOP-USA to resolve the issues that pushed them aside and ensure their return to the organization
3. Discuss and resolve issues or concerns of aggrieved members and/or chapters of the organization, and
4. Review and reconcile the differences, if any, in MOSOP Nigeria’s Constitution and that of MOSOP-USA and its chapters
MOSOP-USA, St. Louis Chapter believes in the Constitution of MOSOP, which outlines consistency, accountability and active participation as key elements that define active membership. We continue to believe that MOSOP-USA as an organization would only function well when membership participation in the chapters is strengthened. We hope that our stance will not be mistaken for opposition but an honest effort to strengthen our organization.
We wish you all a Happy Celebration of November 10th!
Sincerely yours,
Mr. Ledee Deele
Executive Chairman
(For and On behalf of the Executives and Members of MOSOP-USA, St. Louis Chapter)
